LUVA TWO DAY RIVER TRIP
Highlands adventure
inflatable kayaking
paddle rafting
longboat
Day One:
The adventure begins with a breathtaking overland journey into the Namosi Highlands through the lush rainforest interior of Viti Levu. Atop jungle passes, you will enjoy breathtaking views of Beqa Lagoon and other coastal areas until your descent into a beautiful and peaceful Namosi Valley.
Your journey through this idyllic countryside eventually leads you to the Wainikoroiluva River where, in the shadow of Mt. Nambui, the boats are launched and you begin your exploration of this beautiful river canyon and some of Fiji's most spectacular hidden highlands. Along the way, their Namosi guides will help you explore this spectacular countryside through the eyes of a native Fijian. Their guides take great pride in an oral tradition of good old fashioned story telling that includes legends of giants, river serpents, and fearless warriors for which this part of Fiji is renown. The camp is tucked into this remarkable landscape along the "Luva River" where spacious tents, extra thick sleeping pads, natural swimming pools, friendly staff and good food await you at the end of your first day.
Day Two:
Following a hearty breakfast, you depart on a half hour hike up to the village of Nakavika where their guides will introduce you to the village and walk you through the formalities of a traditional "sevu sevu" ceremony. Following the village visit, you take a short walk to the river put-in where after a brief warm-up session, you are off to face the class II whitewater and rock mazes of the lower Luva. Throughout the day, you will have opportunities to swim, hike to waterfalls and in general take in the countryside and quaint highlands villages of Fiji's tropical interior. Eventually you make your way to the confluence of the Navua and Luva Rivers where you trade your kayaks for the motorized longboats that will carry you down through the lower Navua Gorge and out to the village of Nakavu where you conclude your exploration of the Luva and Navua River canyons.

PACKING
You will be provided with a smaller day use dry bag (one per couple) that you can take in your boat on the river. This bag is good for camera gear, warm shirt, extra film, sunscreen etc. You will also be provided with a larger camp dry bag (1 per person) in which you will be expected to pack all those things you would like in camp but not on the river. This bag will be taken to camp while you are boating on your first day and then back to the office on the second day so you can re-pack your personal bags. Note: While their bags are meant to stay mostly dry, there are certain circumstances under which they may leak and Rivers Fiji insists that you assume full and complete responsibility for the water-tightness of your bags.

BOAT TYPES
They have both one and two person kayaks for guests to choose from. Inflatable kayaks are relatively stable and easy to paddle for first timers - not to mention a lot of fun. They will conduct a basic inflatable kayak, addling, navigation and safety class prior to departure. If the water rises to a class III designation due to rain, they will replace the kayaks with rafts until the water has sufficiently receded to class II levels.

PADDLE RAFTING
This option is only available during periods of extreme high water or for small children. Their paddle rafts are equipped to handle crews of 4 - 6. A paddling discussion and training session will be given by each paddle captain at put-in should they decide to run the trip in rafts.
