Tamanu Beach has a history going back hundreds of years. Like all lands in the Cook Islands, the land the hotel is built on has a traditional name and it is Are Tamanu. The literal translation of Tamanu is "House of the Mahogany Tree" and this land still retains some of the native mahogany trees from which it is named.
In keeping with its name, Tamanu' Beach's luxurious self-catering, individual Are's feature tamanu floors and Cook Island style thatched roofs. Tamanu is also used for the carvings in each room and is a feature of the popular poolside bar.
Their private white sand beach borders Aitutaki's superb lagoon providing endless opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and canoeing. Around their fresh-water swimming pool, is a large deck providing a pleasurable venue for evening cocktails and Sunday BBQ's.
ACCOMMODATION
Tamanu Beach offers 22 bungalows, 2 fresh water swimming pools, 2 bars, 220 metres of beach from between two properties owned and operated by two brothers and their families.
All bungalows contain the following features to provide you with a fully contained self catering holiday option: king size bed, fully equipped kitchen including fridge/freezer, gas cooker, microwave oven, cutlery & crockery, separate bathroom with hairdryer, air conditioning and ceiling fans, insect screened windows, IDD telephone and outdoor deck with al-fresco dining setting for four.

Complimentary to all their guests are masks and snorkels, bicycles, tropical breakfasts and lots of smiles.
Every Sunday night is Barbecue night at the hotel, featuring fresh fish, meat, salads and tropical fruit. Join the owners and staff at the pool bar and watch the sun go down.

ACTIVITIES
The lagoon cruise is a must for everyone - take the lagoon cruise to see Aitutaki in all its splendor - lunch and snorkeling is included on this fun filled, unforgettable cruise on the lagoon.
Aitutaki has a number of deep sea fishing operators and the Aitutaki golf club has an interesting course situated on the coast beside the airport. Clubs can be hired for casual games. The above trips/tours can be booked direct at the hotel.

DINING OUT AND NIGHTLIFE
Tamanu Beach is ideally situated within cycling and walking distance from a number of restaurants, cafe's and bars allowing you to eat out at your leisure. Food and supplies for your self-catering holiday option are available just ten minutes from the hotel at Rerei's Store. Rerei's is famous for its Aitutaki bread. Maina Traders, the island's largest general store, can be found a few kilometers from the hotel in the town center. There are numerous small village stores over the island selling fresh local produce and basic supplies.

RESTAURANT
In June 2008, Tamanu Beach have officially opened their new restaurant - Tamanu Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant is right on the beach and seats up to 60 people. Built using the traditional Tamanu timber (mahogany), the restaurant offers guests a place to experience culture, tradition and friendly Aitutaki hospitality. Open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The property offers Island nights with fire dancing on Thursdays and a Sunday BBQ which is always a great attraction. The Restaurant also has a gift shop on site for those visitors who would like to take something home to remind them of their stay at Tamanu Beach. With the new restaurant opening, Tamanu have removed the pool bar on the studio side of the property which means they now have 1 restaurant and 2 bars.
